Ireland and Northern Ireland
I plan to cycle around the coasts of Ireland and Northern Ireland for a full month sometime between early June and late July of 2022. Exact dates TBD. Total of 1,000 miles, averaging 40 miles a day. Thirty-one overnights in B&Bs. Dinners in restaurants and pubs followed by traditional (trad) music sessions most evenings. I'm looking for just one other person, male or female 35 and over, to join me for some of the most enjoyable cycle touring in two of Europe's most hospitable and ruggedly scenic countries. My ideal travel companion is sociable, flexible and adventurous, has a grand sense of humor and is willing to bike cheerfully in any weather. A love of good conversation and chatting with folks we meet along the way are also desirable. We'll begin and end our trip in Ennis, Co. Clare and head clockwise around the island to the Aran Islands, Connemara, the Wild West of Co. Donegal, the Antrim Coast, Belfast, Dublin and the Beara, Iveragh and Dingle peninsulas. Ferries to several offshore islands and a few short train rides are part of the itinerary, as are climbing four or five mountain passes and visits to some of the countries' many national parks, interesting historic and prehistoric sites and other fun attractions. The summertime weather is pleasantly cool with daytime highs of 50°-65°F. Expect light, sporadic rain and sparse sunshine nearly every day. An extensive network of small, quiet back roads with little traffic and patient, courteous drivers is ideal for cycling. Irish B&Bs are exceptionally clean, comfortable and welcoming, the breakfasts yummy and filling.
